Spain. 2023-2026.
Yes, there's the urgency to leave, the need to escape the winter, the asphalt and the Parisian condescension.
But there's also the rest.
There's the sun, the cheaper beer and the singing accents of the south.
There's independence, carelessness and thirst for the unknown.
Languages to learn,
cultures to discover,
certainties to shatter.
That's mostly it, I think: certainties to shatter.
To confront what others wanted to make of you with what you'll decide to become.
And which you have absolutely no idea about, of course
— but nobody's stopping you from pretending.
So you leave.
You leave to step outside your comfort zone not knowing that soon, leaving will become your comfort zone.
But for now, you leave.
This triptych brings together images taken in Andalusia (left : Frigiliana ; right : Málaga) and Gran Canaria (center) ; but it's hard to place them. They're not connected by any visible sense of territory, but by the symbolism of passage they carry.
